R.I.P. Telefon Tel Aviv’s Charlie Cooper

I was catching up on my RSS feeds this morning when I saw this:
via Pitchfork:
Sad news: Charlie Cooper, half of the New Orleans/Chicago electronic duo Telefon Tel Aviv, passed away last Thursday, January 22, at the absurdly young age of 31. In a MySpace blog post yesterday, Cooper’s bandmate Joshua Eustis eulogized him:“Aside from Charlie’s singular genius and musical gifts, I can tell you that he was a total sweetheart of a guy, and a loving friend and confidant to people everywhere. His musicianship was surpassed only by his greater gift to the world - his warmth, his generosity, his unquenchable humor, and his undying loyalty to those whom he loved. In the spirit of honorable mention, however, I should mention that he had a shoe collection that was marvelous, knowledge of hip-hop that was profound, and knowledge of wine that was subtle.”
Consider me heartbroken. If it weren’t for Telefon Tel Aviv, I’d have never started making electronic music in the first place. Even in his short time here, Charlie’s work has helped change lives. My sympathies go out to the Cooper family and all of Charlie’s loved ones.
